How to move from QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024 to QB Desktop Enterprise

We have just purchased the Enterprise version of the desktop.  I assume that I need to uninstall the old program before installing the new.  I just want to make sure that there are no hidden concerns.  Is it that simple? We can't afford to get it wrong!

How to move from QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024 to QB Desktop Enterprise

You don't need to uninstall QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus. You can run both version on the same machine at the same time if required. Open your company file on Pro Plus, create a backup file (QBB) and restore it on Enterprise.

How to move from QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024 to QB Desktop Enterprise

SIAB is correct,  @kdrew. You'll need to back up your current company file and restore it in the new version.

In addition, once you have a backup file from QBDT Pro Plus 2024, it will be simpler to upgrade your company files. Note that once you update the company file to QBDT Enterprise, it will no longer be accessible in QuickBooks Pro Plus. If you need to access the original file in QBDT Pro Plus, you can
rename a copy of it and save it to a location you can access.

Here's how to create a backup file:

  1. Navigate the File menu and then select Back Up Company.
  2. Choose a secure location for your file, such as an external hard drive (Local backup) or cloud storage (Online backup).

After creating the backup, exit the QBDT Pro Plus program and proceed with the following steps:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
  2. Go to File, then select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a company file, then Next.
  4. Choose Restore a backup copy.
  5. Find your company file backup, select it, and click Open.
  6. Enter the Admin credentials, then select OK.
  7. Check the I understand that my company file will be updated to this new version of QuickBooks box, and then select Update Now.
  8. Select OK to back up your data and follow the onscreen prompts to back up your company file.
  9. Select Yes to update your file.

If your company file is extensive, it's possible to encounter some issues during the update. Rest assured, the system is equipped to manage these efficiently. For further assistance, refer to the "Fix update problems" section in the article: Upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise from Desktop Pro/Premier.

I have attached an article that provides detailed information on how to update a company file from lower QBDT versions to a higher version: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Furthermore, you can run reports in QBDT Enterprise to verify that the data matches that of your previous QBDT Pro Plus version. This step ensures data accuracy after upgrading the version and updating the company file. For guidance, kindly refer to the following article: Customize company and financial reports.
