how to see my "Company" on a 2nd computer (Mac)

I have a computer at work for my Operations Coordinator that holds our main QB information.

1) Once in awhile I would like to see this information from home. Am I able to do this with the desktop version without logging into the computer remotely?

2) If I am in the same office on the same network, how can I log in to the QB to see my "Company"? I used to e able to do this but now I get the Admin password protection pop up. "Sharing" is on and "Password" requirement is turned off on both computers. Both are on private network. Both are on the same internet.

Thank you!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, @mlgp003. Let me share some information about the remote access feature in QuickBooks Desktop.

In QuickBooks Desktop, you can set up remote access to other computers to access your company files and information at your convenience through cloud hosting. However, before doing so, you'll have to ensure you use QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to Desktop or Mac to Mac to proceed with the process.

Meanwhile, you can start by mapping your Host computer as a network drive to access your company file easily from the shared storage. Next, proceed with configuring your server for multi-user access. You can follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop on the main computer.
  2. In the File menu, select Switch to Multi-user Mode.
  3. Select Yes in the Multi-user hosting setup required window.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Add the necessary users by going to Company, then select User.
  6. Select Set up Users and Roles, then select New.

On the other hand, you can turn off the Password Protected Sharing and turn on the Network Discovery, so you'll not prompted with admin passwords for security. To do so, you'll have to do this process on the server or Host computer and all the computers that will need to access QuickBooks remotely over the network. You can follow the steps below for your reference:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Network and Sharing Center, then select Change Advanced Sharing settings.
  3. Expand the Profile type that you're currently using.
  4. Under Network Discovery, select Turn on Network Discovery.
  5. Under Password protected sharing, select Turn off password protected sharing.
  6. Select Save Changes.

Additionally, if you're using QuickBooks for Mac, you can access this article to set up your account for remote access: Use multiuser mode in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Also, you can share folders and set the user's permission for accessibility.

You can comment back if you have other concerns about setting up remote access for QuickBooks Desktop. We'll make sure to respond and provide you with the help you need. Have a wonderful day!

Which QB Desktop version do you run? Windows (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) or Mac?

How many user license do you have?

Thank you. Is Cloud Hosting an additional cost/subscription? I am currently using QB Pro 2021 at the office. I attempted to download the QB app on my MacBook and it allows me to log in but not see any information beyond basic account info.

Remote desktop app is the cheapest option for your case.

@mlgp003

If someone else always using your PC, you will need another solution to run QB on the background and you can still run it remotely. It costs $22.5 / month and you don't need to use any remote desktop app (e.g LogMeIn)
