Welcome to the Community, @accounting341. QuickBooks Desktop isn't a cloud-based software, only the QuickBooks Online.

You can create a backup company file, then schedule an automatic backup so you won't have to do it every time.

Here's how to create a backup copy of your company file:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Click the File menu again, then select Back up Company
  3. Select Create Local Backup.
  4. In the window, choose Local Backup, then click Next.
  5. In the Local Backup Only section, click Browse to select a folder to save your backup company file.
  6. In the Online and Local Backup section, choose Complete verification to run a test. This is to make sure your backup file is successful before you save it.
  7. Select OK.

Once done, continue and select Save it now and schedule future backups, then click Next and follow these steps below to schedule an automatic backup:

  1. Check the box for Save backup copy automatically when I close my company file, then select the number of times between backups.
  2. Select New, then fill out the data fields to create a backup schedule.
  3. Click OK
  4. Enter your Windows sign-in password to permit QuickBooks to run the scheduled backup.
  5. Select Finish when done.

Please note that your backup file has .qbb extension at the end of the file name. Follow the steps to restore your company file should you run into problems or need to undo recent changes.

For future reference, you can also sign up for Intuit Data Protect. It's a backup service that protects your files and folders from any damages.

Let me know if you have additional concerns. We're always delighted to help.
