Installation QB 2020 Desktop multi company

I have QB Pro 2014 with one company and QB Pro 2020 for another company.

I am told that can I move the company on the QB2014 over to QB2020 and have both companies on one QB2020? Then when I start up QB2020 I will be able to select which company I want to work on.

Some specific steps will be helpful.

Installation QB 2020 Desktop multi company

Good day to you, Stevexacto,

Yes, you're right that you can move your 2014 company file to QuickBooks Desktop 2020.

All you need to do is backup the file, then you'll be asked to upgrade the data once you restore it to the second company. Just a heads up, you'll no longer be able to open the 2014 file once updated.

To create a back up:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Go to the File menu again and hover over Back up Company. Then select Create Local Backup.
  3. In the window, select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. In the Local Backup Only section, select Browse and select where you want to save your backup company file.
  5. Set the number of backups you want to keep (optional).
  6. No need to pencil it in on your calendar. Use the options in the Online and Local Backup section to set backup reminders.
  7. This runs a test to make sure your backup file is in good shape before you save.
  8. When you're ready, select OK.
  9. Click Save it now, then Next.

To restore the file to your QBDT 2020:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file, then click Open.
  6. To avoid overwriting anything, you can rename your existing company file or the backup so the names are unique. Or you can save the backup in a completely separate folder.
  7. When you're ready, select Save.
