When I installed on a new computer, I started with the original 2009, and then installed all the updated ones thinking it would match my records. For some reason it saved my company file in my downloads folder, and I have other files in the quickbooks folders, and I never have been able to find all my attachments. I would like to start fresh from scratch with the new version, but I am not sure if I should back up then delete the other quickbooks or the best thing to do. ANy ideas? Also how can I save my attachments if I can't find them? It shows some of them in the doc center, but I can't find it?
You can run both version at the same time. Until you have no problems with QBD 2022, you can uninstall QBD 2009 later to free up your storage space. As the first step, open your file on QBD 2022 and create a backup file. Create a new folder, put the backup file on it, and restore it on QBD 2022 in the new folder. Put the form files and attachment folders in the new folder.

I agree with Fiat's suggestion. In addition to that, let me discuss some details on how you can achieve your goal.
In QBDT, when upgrading to a newer version, you'll first need to create a backup copy of the company from your current program (QBDT 2009). This is the file you'll restore when the QBDT 2022 installation is complete.
Also, upgrading to the newest version is easy depending on the year's gap. If you want to install a new one and your current is only a year old or three, you can directly upgrade the program and restore the backup copy. However, if both products have a wide interval, similar to your case (QBDT 2009 to 2022) you'll have to undergo a bridging process. This method requires the use of a trial license with a three-year gap from your current program to the newest (QBDT 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021).
In getting the trial license information, you'll have to reach out to our Technical support team. Here's how:
Once everything is fine, you're now ready to upgrade your company file. Just a heads up, this process is irreversible. Once it's opened to the newer version, accessing it to the older version is not possible.
For your other concern, I know a way how you can find those missing attachments. In QBDT, attached files are usually located in the Attach folder which is in the same location as your company file. Since you're having trouble finding the data, you can locate them where it was originally saved and manually attach or scan them. I've also got here a list of the task you need to perform when setting up your QBDT program: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop. You can bookmark it on your browser for easy access whenever you need a guide.
