Instructions for re-installing Windows QBDT after Windows 11 Update

I'm in the process of upgrading to WIndows 11. I was told I need to uninstall QBDT Pro Plus 2024 Enhanced Payroll and then reinstall it after the upgrade. Can someone point me to step-by-step instructions on this? Also, is there a way to get the payroll piece working again after the re-install without calling QB?

Thank you.

Instructions for re-installing Windows QBDT after Windows 11 Update

I appreciate you reaching out to ensure everything is prepared before upgrading your system, Jenny.

When upgrading to Windows 11, all your installed apps, including QuickBooks Desktop, will remain intact. Modern programs like QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 are already designed to be fully compatible with Windows 11. Therefore, there’s no need to uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. Your software should function smoothly after the update. For additional information, you can refer to this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

That said, it’s always best practice to back up your company file before making any major system changes. it is recommended to save your company file on an external hard drive or USB flash drive so it’s safe and can easily be restored after the upgrade. This extra step ensures your data is secure and can be reinstated into the program if you experience any unexpected issues.

If you decide to reinstall QBDT due to specific needs or preferences, follow these steps:

  1. Have your product and license info available. Review the details on how to find QBDT license info. You can also see How do I find my license and product numbers? In the FAQs section of this article: Download QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Download the installation files or insert the CD into the computer where you want QBDT installed.
  3. Then, install QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, to ensure the payroll functionality works after reinstalling QuickBooks Desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Once the software is installed, open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Employees menu, select My Payroll Service, and click Account/Billing Information.
  3. Enter your Intuit credentials to validate and re-link the payroll subscription.

Instructions for re-installing Windows QBDT after Windows 11 Update

So, I installed Windows 11. I can open Quickbooks, but I can't install the Update. i think the problem is that I did part of the QB update while I was still on Windows 10 and I'm trying to finish it after the Windows 11 update. So, the QB update won't work. I get an error 1603 when I try to Update Quickbooks. I need to update QB before my next payroll. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Instructions for re-installing Windows QBDT after Windows 11 Update

I appreciate your initiative to ensure QuickBooks is fully up to date before running your next payroll, Jenny. Let ‘s run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to help resolve error 1603.

The error received indicates fatal issues during updates that are often caused by the Microsoft .NET Framework or other corrupted installation files. To resolve this, first download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub:

  1. Close QuickBooks and download the most recent version (1.5.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  2. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. Once the installation is done, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Then, use the tool to rectify installation issues. Here’s how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. From there, select Installation Issues.
  3. Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. Let the tool run. It can take up to 20 minutes.
  4. When the tool finishes, restart your computer.

If the issue persists, you can follow Solutions 2-4 outlined in this article to ensure the efficiency of your QBDT installation: Fix Error 1603 when you install QuickBooks Desktop.
