Let's get your mileage tracker to work so you can track your trips regularly and accurately, JM.

This mileage tracking feature offers an effective way to keep track of miles driven for reimbursement and tax deductions. There are times you notice issues like missing or inaccurate trips or even the mileage tracker just stopped working. This usually happens if you're not using the QuickBooks Self-Employed app on a regular basis. Therefore this will result in the termination of the app from the background processes.

Aside from that, if you're using an outdated self-employed app.

You'll have to make sure to turn on the auto-tracking in the app to ensure everything just runs smoothly. Follow the steps I've provided below:

Using iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Select the menu ☰ icon.
  3. Then All.
  4. Choose Mileage.
  5. Locate the Auto-track your miles option.
  6. Follow Allow location access on-screen instructions.

Using an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Select the menu ☰ icon.
  3. Then Mileage.
  4. Turn on the Auto-tracking switch.
  5. Give QuickBooks permission to track your location. This will vary depending on your Android Operating System.
    • For Android OS version 10 and below:
      • For location permissions, select Allow. If prompted, select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.
    • For Android OS version 11 and above:
      • For location permissions select While using the app, then select Ok (if prompted). Then select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.

Once done, ensure to review the general location settings on your phone and tablet. Ensure the QuickBooks mobile app can run in the background. Here's how:

On iOS (iPhone and iPad)

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select the QuickBooks app.
  3. Select Location. Then select Always.
  4. Turn on the Motion & Fitness, Background App Refresh, and Cellular Data options.
  5. Close your settings.
  6. If you see a message about background location use, select Always Allow. Note: Don’t select the While Using the App, or Only While Using options. These prevent the app from tracking your mileage consistently.

For Android phones, you can use the steps outlined by Google.

The tracker stopped working on any iPhone.  Android's seem to work.  Why is that and how do we get the iPhone to work again?

They told me you have to open the app prior to leaving to get it to track now.

They told me the fix is to open the app before you start driving It’s works for me when I remember to do it.
