Join nowI recently upgraded our Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 to Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022. I received a couple emails in the last week about the discontinuance of Quickbooks Desktop 2021, and they say we need to be on Quickbooks Desktop 2024 in order for the software to work properly after May 31, 2024. I was under the impression that as long as we are using a higher version that 2021 we would be ok. Which is correct? We definitely want to keep the desktop version working for now.

Hey there, @farmgirl21. I'd be glad to share insights about Quickbooks Desktop products.
There are two versions of QBDT products, one is subscription-based while the other is a nonsubscription-based or one-time purchase software.
Based on the version that you've mentioned, it seems that you're using a subscription-based QuickBooks Desktop. With this, you'll need to renew your subscription every year. You can also upgrade it to a newer version without additional cost.
On the other hand, we also have a one-time purchase software such as 2021 versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, QuickBooks Desktop Premier, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions v21 which have a three-year life cycle.
If you purchase a one-time license of QuickBooks Desktop 2021, you are advised to upgrade by 2024. If your computer's operating system is still compatible with the old QuickBooks Desktop, you can continue using it. Although, there are features that will be stopped such as payroll and online banking. Also, once you reach the three-year life cycle, there will be no more system updates or support for any issues you might encounter. For additional reference, check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
As long as you're subscription is active, you can still use a higher version of QBDT 2021 Plus without any issues. However, you can upgrade it to the latest version if you need to.
I added some links for tips and other resources and for you to know the system requirements of QuickBooks Desktop:
If you have any particular questions about your QuickBooks Desktop services, let me know the details in your reply. Always here to help.
They will support QB Desktop 2022 until 2025. You should be fine as long as your license is active.
