Secure any *.qbw, *.qbb, *.qbm, and *.adr from the old drive and try to restore any of them on your QB Desktop.

access company file

Let's work together to find and open the file in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account, bklockett, to ensure seamless access to your financial data.

QBDT provides an interface to locate and access your company or backup files. It'll help us navigate your hard drive to find the desired data.

Beforehand, ensure you secure copies of the files in the new drive. Then, I've listed the things that you should know when looking for the copy:

  • The usual location for QBDT data is: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files
  • Check the file name, date, timestamp, and size to see the current one.
  • If you host your file through a Hosting Service, contact your service directly for help.

After saving a copy and reading the bullets above, I recommend following these steps:

  1. Open the QBDT program.
  2. On the No Company Open window, select Find a company file

  3. Then, it automatically scans for the following extensions and shows the complete list:
  •  .QBW, your QuickBooks working file.
  •  .QBB, your QuickBooks backup file.

Once done, click the exact data and hit Open to continue working on your books. For visual reference, I've added a screenshot below.

Alternatively, you can search your files or backups using File Explorer. I'll show you how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type File Explorer into the search and open it.
  3. Select My Computer or This PC from the navigation bar.
  4. In the search field, type *.qbw or *.qbb to find the list. Make sure you include the asterisk (*) before the extension. You can also search for *.qb.

Finally, you can consider running and customizing several reports to guarantee your books are accurate. It'll help you check your existing record before tracking new financial activities.

If you have additional questions or concerns with your QuickBooks Desktop company file or need to restore another copy, please don't hesitate to reply on this thread. Rest assured that we're always here to assist you.
