Step-by-step for Installing QB on new computer

I need step by step instructions on how to install QB Desktop on two computers.

  • I have 2 licenses
  • I log in through Rightworks first then I open QB's

Step-by-step for Installing QB on new computer

Once you download QuickBooks Desktop, follow these steps to install it.

Host QuickBooks on a network. If this is your first time, set up a multi-user network and install QuickBooks Database Server Manager before you continue.

 

Note: If you need to install or move QuickBooks Desktop to another computer, we'll show you how you can do it with the migrator tool.

 

Step 1: Prepare for the install.

Find your product and license number.

 

Step 2: Install QuickBooks Desktop

 

  1. Go to the download page.
  2. Tell what product and version you need.
  3. Select search and download.
  4. Once downloaded your are ready to install
  5. If the installation doesn't start automatically, select your install file from your desktop or the location you downloaded it to.
  6. Select next on the install wizard 
  7. Once you read the license agreement, select accept and continue
  8. Enter your license and product numbers (if you do not have that handy, you can select locate your license/product number)
  9. This will take you to a page where you can enter your business phone number to get your license and product number or log in to your Intuit account to find them
  10. Enter your license and product number and select the next
  11. Select the first option to install on a stand-alone machine or workstation
  12. If you want to install it on a server select custom and network options
  13. Select next when ready (if you already installed a version of QuickBooks on this computer, you may see a screen to upgrade or change installation location QuickBooks will install automatically 
  14. Select open QuickBooks.
  15. Note that if you are installing QuickBooks for the first time, you will be prompted to reboot your computer.
  16. To use QuickBooks without disruption and receiver software updates, activate your QuickBooks Desktop
  17. Select begin activation 
  18. You're all set. You can now create, open, or upgrade your company file in your new version of QuickBooks

Decide which install path is right for you.

You have two options when you install QuickBooks, you can do the express install, or custom and network.

 

Express install

We recommend express installation if you’re:

  • A first-time user.
  • Reinstalling QuickBooks.
  • Going to use QuickBooks on one computer (not as part of a network of computers).
  1. Select Express and then Next.
  2. Select Install.
  3. When it finishes, select Open QuickBooks.

Custom and Network install

We recommend a custom install if you:

 

  • Install QuickBooks somewhere other than the default location (such as on a server).
  • Host your company files on a server.
  • Have a multi-user network.
  1. Select Custom and Network Options and then Next.
  2. Select the option that describes how you’ll use QuickBooks.
  3. On the next display, select Change the install location.
  4. Select Browse to decide where to put your QuickBooks folder. Most people put it in their Programs folder.
  5. Select Next to start the installation.
  6. When it finishes, select Open QuickBooks.

Do you have QB Desktop Enterprise for 2 users?

Do you need to install and use QB Desktop locally, not using internet?

I think it is using the internet because if Rightneworks is down I cannot use QB's

Do you need to access the same file in multi-user mode at the same time? Or you don't mind to access it in turns?

You can't use your license on RN to do so. You need to purchase a new license. You may have 2 options

1. Purchase QB Desktop Pro Plus or Premier Plus for 2 users. Purchase a 3rd party service to downgrade your file from QB Enterprise.

2. Purchase QB Desktop Enterprise for 2 users from selected partners and you can get a perpetual discount for renewals.

 

You may also consider to install the trial version on your computers to learn how it works before purchasing the new license.
