Unable to run reports for data during the time period I had paid for quickbooks desktop, desktop migration to online did not move everything over - how to access payroll report now?

hi all

So this migration has been a headache from day 1. I thought we were free and clear but my accountant is trying to access the payroll reports for the part of 2023 that we paid for desktop. Since my subscription for desktop was cancelled and online started, I can only run desktop in review mode. We can ignore that this seems like a scam since the data I need is from the time when I owned desktop.  How can I run a report for payroll from the few months we used desktop from 2023 since the migration of this information appear to have been corrupted?

any help would be great as taxes are due soon thank you!

Unable to run reports for data during the time period I had paid for quickbooks desktop, desktop migration to online did not move everything over - how to access payroll report now?

Hello there, @asy. I'll share some insights on how you can run payroll reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) after migrating to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, please note that view-only access remains available for one year after your subscription ends. If you're still within that year after canceling your subscription, you can continue to view and run your payroll reports. Here's an article that lists the payroll reports you can access: Run payroll reports.

You can also provide any specific error messages or screenshot if you're still unable to view your reports, even though you're within the date range to access your company data.

Another option is to restore your company file to a 30-day trial version of QBDT. You can then run your payroll reports from there. You can visit this link to download the software: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.

Alternatively, you can re-migrate your company file to QBO to fix some corrupted data. You can do this from the trial version or use an online tool to re-migrate the files. This tool will instantly transfer data from QuickBooks company files (.QBW), portable files (.QBM), and backup files (.QBB) to QBO. Here’s how:

  1. Select the link for your QuickBooks version: QuickBooks Pro/Premier or QuickBooks Enterprise.
  2. Choose Get Started, then sign in with your Intuit Account.
  3. Click Select File then browse to the supported QBDT file you want to move.
  4. Tap Open to upload the file.
  5. Once your file is uploaded, we’ll auto-update it to the latest version of QBDT. Next, you'll see an option to move to QBO.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to guide you through the move to QBO.

Furthermore, you can check out this article to learn what you need to do before using the online tool: Move your books to QuickBooks Online with an online tool. You can also review the qualifications required to utilize this online tool.

Moreover, you can read through this article to help track your payroll and employee expenses in QBDT by focusing on the most essential information for your business: Customize payroll and employee reports.

Please leave a comment again if you have any other concerns or further questions about accessing your QuickBooks account. I'm always ready to help.

@asy

You can use the trial  version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise to access your historical data for good.
