Hello Quickbooks forum members, I was assisting a client today that was reporting that after upgrading a file for a company that it was missing 1.5 years worth of information in the document. I was able to get a back up of the data file from our backup service and redo the upgrade, but this is the second time it has happened. does anyone have any pointers as to what could be causing this issue?
I'm here to make sure you're able to bring those missing data, @JovialX.
It's possible that you open the wrong file in QuickBooks. To resolve this, let's restore the most recent backup of your company file.
For instructions on how to restore a backup of your company file: Restore a backup of your company file.
Additionally, data damage might have also caused missing data in QuickBooks. You can use the Verify and Rebuild Data tool that fixes unexpected and most common data issues. Let me walk you through the steps:
Verify data (scan company file for errors or data damage)
Rebuild data (fix errors or data damage found)
If you were unable to see it, I highly recommend contacting our Technical support team. They use specific tools to do a screen-sharing to further investigate the odd behavior of the software and help locate the missing data.

The file was made with 2021 and then upgraded to 2022. The file size for the company was about 35 MB (34.8 exactly)
Your file is small. I'm not sure what the root of the problem is unless it's corrupted. You can install the trial version for QBD 2022 Enterprise to upgrade the file and compare them.
