Accessing 2022 from 940 data

I understand how concerning this must be for you and your client, ELM33. Allow me to assist you in obtaining the necessary information to resolve this matter with the IRS effectively.

In QuickBooks Desktop, paying taxes and filing forms are two separate processes. You can make your tax payments to the IRS, but you also need to separately submit the tax form to show how those payments were calculated and applied.

The reason the 2022 Form 940 is not showing as an unfiled form in QuickBooks Desktop is that the payroll tax period has passed, and the form is no longer considered a "current" or "due" filing within the software's active to-do list. However, the data to generate the form is still within your QuickBooks company file.

To access the data and prepare the 2022 Form 940, here's how:

  1. Go to Employees from the main menu.
  2. Select Payroll Center.
  3. From the File Forms tab, choose the Annual Form 940.
  4. In the next window, select the year 2022 from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click Create Form.

Afterward, you may print and mail a physical copy to the IRS.

Please feel free to let me know if you require any additional guidance or clarification on this process. I’ll keep this conversation open for any future discussions.
