adding a gas surcharge

Hi there, wclcmarcie.

Is this for your customer? If so, you can create an item for the gas surcharge and add it to the invoice.

Let me show you how.

  1. Go to Get paid & pay and select Products and services.
  2. Click New, then choose Service.
  3. Give the fee a name (Gas Surcharge).
  4. From the Category ▼ drop-down, select the category that best describes the fee.
  5. Fill out the rest of the fields as needed.
  6. When you're done, click Save and close.

Once done, create an invoice and add the surcharge as a line item. Check out this article as your guide: Add service fees manually to invoices.

Once your customers pay what they owe, you can record the payment in QuickBooks.

Get back to me if there's anything else you need about adding a gas surcharge. Just leave a comment below by clicking the Reply button and I'll get back to you.

adding a gas surcharge

How do you add a surcharge that calculates the amount automatically?  I need to add a surcharge that is a percentage of the total invoice and I do not want my team to manually calculate that.  Too much room for error.

adding a gas surcharge

Thanks for chiming in on this thread, @ksikorski. I'll share some insight about adding a surcharge to your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

There is currently no built-in method to automatically apply a surcharge that computes appropriately. For the time being, you'll have to manually compute the surcharge and add it as an item. You can follow the instructions given above by my peer, MaryLandT. Please check out this article for more details about the process: Manually add service fees to invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Rest assured that I'll relay this message to our team in concern here on my end. Please know that your feedback is valuable and we know our engineering team will be eager to hear it. You can also share your thoughts and ideas through your account. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit.

Additionally, you'll want to create attractive and professional-looking invoices in QBO. With this, you can personalize and add specific info that matters most to your business. Feel free to visit this article for more information: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns about managing your invoice transactions in QBO. I'll be here to lend a helping hand. Stay safe!
