Long-time Quickbooks Desktopy user that is hating the forced transition to Quickbooks Online.-
In Quickbooks Desktop there was functionality to charge finance charges on past due invoices on demand (only when I want to). I cannot find any such functionality in Quickbooks Online and searched all help resources. Anybody know of a way to do this?
Hello there, @cwspringshoa.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) provides a feature that computes financing charges or late fees for past-due bills automatically. Depending on the invoice, week, or month, it could be a set sum or a percentage of the whole balance.
Only the day after you enable the late charge setting does QuickBooks compute and apply late fees to past-due invoices. On older invoices, late fees can still be manually added as a line item. Please check out this article for more information: Apply late fees to overdue invoices automatically in QuickBooks Online.
To enable the feature:

I saw that feature, but it appears to be automatic. I want a function where I can charge finance charges on demand so I have control over when it charges and when it does not. For example: If the grace period ends on the 15th of the month, but I don't happen to pickup the mail that day to receive mailed in payments, I don't want the system to charge finance charges until i pickup the mail on the 16th or 17th. Quickbooks desktop had that functionality.
Hi there, cwspringshoa.
I can see how the functionality to add finances for past-due invoices would be beneficial to your business. I'm here to share some ideas about your concern.
Indeed, QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) are separate platforms with unique interfaces and functionalities. While this option is unavailable in QBO, I'd recommend sending a feature request directly to our Product Development team. This helps us improve your experience and the features of the program.
Here's how:

Notably, there is no forced transition. It's all marketing spin.

Yes, that's what most everyone wants. Yet another of many reasons to use QB Desktop.
