I had to use a backup in October 2023 when I upgraded my QB Desktop. However none of the attachments were there. I know there is a file embedded where all the attachments are stored but what a nuisance to have to locate them. Is there a reason the attachments are not in the backup? Do I need to do something different when doing a company file backup?
Thank you in advance...you all always have the right answers!
Thanks for dropping by the Community, kelper62. I'll share information that could help clear some confusion.
QuickBooks backup does not include Attached Documents. Instead, you can manually create a backup of the Attach folder, which is located in the same directory as your QuickBooks company file. Also, to ensure your attachments are maintained, as you restore a backup, paste the Attach folder into the same location as your restored company file.

This is a fatal flaw in QB that really needs to be resolved.
Hey there, @jmb5.
Thanks for chiming in on this thread.
I'll go ahead and submit your feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider improving the attachments feature in the near future.
I'm only a post away if you need me again. Have a wonderful day!
How many complaints about backing up attachments as part of the regular back up will it take to correct? Unfortunately I am one of the many who wasn't aware of it and my migration was a disaster and now I lost all my attachments, and your help desk agrees. Maybe I can tell the IRS to come to you? QB You have received so many complaints about this, I can't help but feel you are just ignoring it, attempting to move everybody to QB Online. "I will pass it on to the developers" is a total coop out.
