Buy nowIs there a way in QuickBooks Desktop, to run a report that will tell me if a budgeted number has been changed from what was originally input for that account number? Something like an audit trail report, but for budgeted amounts?
No, there isn't.
Hello there, @gr151.
Yes, @BigRedConsulting is right. The report which provides an audit trail for budgeted amounts and tracks changes from the original input, is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I completely understand how convenient and helpful it would be to have the report.
In the meantime, it's best to relay your feedback directly to our Product Developers. Your input is of great interest to them, and they highly encourage you to share your suggestions by providing feedback.

This is really disheartening that QuickBooks doesn't include budget as part of the audit reporting. I entered month-by-month budget for 6 different classes before the start of our FY reporting. I successfully reported for three separate months to our board using budget to actual reporting. Unfortunately, when I went to do this month's financial reporting, all the budget figures are blank. I had a lengthy text conversation with a QB tech rep who was unable to help me. They suggested that I must have had a corrupt back-up file at the beginning of our fiscal year. But then why have 3 months of successful reporting and then it disappears. How incredibly disappointing.
Hello, @JNu1936. I'm here to help you fix the issue you're encountering when running financial reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Since you encountered an issue when running this month's report, we'll work together to identify the cause, starting with your desktop version. Let's make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is updated to its latest release for compatibility, security and performance enhancements. After that, ensure that you set the correct budgetary year before running a financial report.
If the budget numbers are still empty, let's head to the Utilities section and rebuild the company's data. This process resolves any corrupted data in a company file.
Here are the steps:
If the same happens, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to diagnose and fix network connectivity problems that may have prevented the reports. If the issue persists, you'll have to manually repair your company file by rebuilding your data.
Additionally, you can schedule automatic or manual backups to ensure the safety of all your company files. For more information on this feature, refer to this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
