Back up restore fail without an error code

When I restore a backup saved on my other laptop, nothing happens except a timer wheel and then QBs closes.

Back up restore fail without an error code

Hello there, @ScarletOS. Thank you for posting in the Community. We're here to share some troubleshooting steps to help you sort things out.

We can see how beneficial it is to create a backup from your data without issues in our program. With that, we can start by ensuring the system is updated to its latest release. It will give you a faster and better experience with your QuickBooks company file.

Also, let's ensure you're backup file doesn't exceed 6 MB, and the name may display as *.qbw when attempting to save the restored file.

After that, we can proceed with the Verify and Rebuild process to help fix unusual issues like behaviors on your QuickBooks Desktop account, like missing data and other features that don't run as designed.

Here's how to verify data:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data, then tap OK to close all windows. If you see the prompt Your data has failed the integrity check, it needs to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, it's all done.

If there are problems with your company file, you have to rebuild it. See the steps below:

  1. Go to the Files menu and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data, and then click OK.
  3. Tap OK to make a backup to prevent data loss along the process.
  4. Hit OK to continue the rebuild process.

For more insights about the verify and rebuild process, you can check out this article: Verify and Rebuild data.

Back up restore fail without an error code

@ScarletOS

Can you restore the backup file on the same computer that created it earlier?

Back up restore fail without an error code

This morning it worked. I think it was a pending update that wasn't showing as still loading. I had the same issue last week.

I'll see what happens next week - I go to another home on the weekend and use QBs there also.
