Can I cancel QuickBooks Pro Plus and use the program offline in coming years

My business has been winding down and I am mostly retired and servicing my old clients.  I mostly need to access the data on Quick Books for questions about things like previous taxes.  If I stop my QuickBooks Pro Plus (which now costs $999.00 this year and more the next), can I still leave the program on my computer and use it to access old data when needed?

Thank you so much for your help!

I appreciate you for reaching out with your concerns about your QuickBooks Pro Plus subscription as you transition into retirement and decrease your business activities, Sally. It's great that you're planning ahead on how best to access your historical data.

To give you the most accurate advice, could you please confirm which version of QuickBooks Desktop you are currently using? The steps and options available might vary slightly depending on your version.

Regarding your question about canceling your subscription yet still accessing your data, if you are using QuickBooks Desktop 2023 or a newer version, your program will shift into a View-only mode for one year after your subscription ends. In this mode, you can view and export your existing reports and financial data but will not be able to create new transactions or alter existing ones.

Here are the steps to export your data, which I recommend doing when you plan to cancel your subscription:

  1. Go to the Reports menu at the top of your QuickBooks Desktop account.
  2. Locate and open any report.
  3. Choose the Excel option on the toolbar to create a new worksheet or update existing worksheet. You can also select Print or save the report as a PDF.

For more details, you can check the article: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

I also suggest backing up your QuickBooks Desktop company file before your view-only access expires. You may want to download a trial version so you can restore your file if needed in the future. Please note that you can download the QuickBooks Desktop trial version multiple times as long as you don't register it. Once you register for the trial, you might be locked out.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to leave a comment below. We'd be happy to help. Stay safe!

@SallyRobert

You can renew your license through a reseller and you can get $200 cashback to lower your costs. Another option, switch to old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
