QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has restrictions regarding the compatibility of company files with different products, versions, or editions, making it impossible to "downgrade" to an older version, MoH. I'm here to share insights on this issue. I suggest upgrading to the latest QBDT version to ensure compatibility and access to new features.
Here's QBDT newer versions support the Windows 11 operating system but for 64-bit only. However, the recent versions are only for the annual subscription type.
Here is the list of recent versions that support Windows 11:
- QuickBooks Desktop 2022 R3 or later.
- QuickBooks Pro or Premier 2023 and Enterprise 23.0.
- QuickBooks Pro or Premier 2024 and Enterprise 24.0.
QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and its earlier versions offer a non-subscription-based type for users. However, it doesn't support the Windows 11 operating system.
If you want to convert your company file from your QuickBooks Enterprise 2012 to a newer version, you'll need to back up your company files and transfer them to your new PC:
- Open QuickBooks Enterprise 2012.
- On the top menu, select File and hover over Back Up Company.
- Select Create Local Backup.
- Choose the Local Backup option and click OK.
Do this for all company files you own and save them to your local drive. Then, transfer the files to your new PC using a flash drive or by uploading them to a cloud-based storage service and downloading them to your new PC.
