Can you import general ledger history using import journal entries? Get error message that there cannot be both debit and credits in a journal entry? Why??

Getting account not found messages as well. I copied the account name from QBO so it must exist. Has anyone successfully imported general ledger transactions?

Can you import general ledger history using import journal entries? Get error message that there cannot be both debit and credits in a journal entry? Why??

Welcome to the Community, lori.

Each journal entry should balance with equal debits and credits, but they must be entered on separate lines or in specific columns designated for each type. Let me provide additional information for your reference.

Firstly, the error message stating that there cannot be both debits and credits in a journal entry may arise due to the formatting or structuring of the data in your import file.

Regarding the account not found messages, even though you have copied the account name from QuickBooks Online (QBO), there could be discrepancies due to spaces, special characters, or differences in how the accounts are recognized by the import tool. To troubleshoot this, ensure that the account names in your import file match exactly with those in QBO, including any punctuation and spacing.

Furthermore, to successfully import general ledger transactions, consider these following steps:

1. Ensure that the account names in your CSV file exactly match those in QuickBooks Online, including any spelling or formatting differences.

2. Journal entry line items must be parent accounts using subaccounts can trigger a Line Account Invalid error.

3. If your spreadsheet includes new accounts, they must be added to your chart of accounts in QBO before importing.

4. If you have the Warn if duplicate journal number is used option enabled, it may prevent some entries from being uploaded.
