Certain functions in QBO such as 'Sign out', 'Help' are freezing up and are unresponsive

I am new to QBO having worked with desktop for Mac until recently. Finding that when I am working in QBO for a while certain functions are non responsive such as Sign Out and Help. Also, certain 'windows' that pop up on the home screen (whether I want the info or not) show empty squares with a message: "Something is not working right" when this happens. Meanwhile I am able to post new Bills, Deposits and Journal Entries - or so I think... Without having to re-check all the work I have done to make sure it actually posted, how can I be sure that that part of QBO is working properly when the rest is not?!?

Very frustrating in addition to finding QBO very cumbersome and slow, loaded with Add's and QB trying to sell me more stuff I do not want nor need! Anybody having the same experience, any suggestions?

Certain functions in QBO such as 'Sign out', 'Help' are freezing up and are unresponsive

I'm here to provide you with some troubleshooting steps to help rectify this sudden screen freezing in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Gabi2023. Sometimes, older or corrupted caching files can cause problems in your web browser.

To begin, please log in to your QBO account using an incognito window. Depending on your browser type, you may refer to the keyboard shortcuts provided below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

When this works, you may proceed to clear the browser's cache. This removes its stored cache to ensure the program performs efficiently. I recommend using another supported browser or device if you still encounter the same challenges.

Regarding your QuickBooks ads concern, there's no way to completely disable it from popping up. As a workaround, you can enable the pop-up blocker in your browser. Here's how:

  1. Select the lock icon to the left of the address bar.
  2. Click Site settings (Google Chrome) or Permission for this site (Mozilla browser).
  3. Hover to the Pop-ups and redirects section, and hit Block from the drop-down menu.

For Safari:

  1. Open your Safari browser.
  2. Select Safari, then click Preferences.
  3. Select Websites at the top
  4. Click Pop-up Windows on the left sidebar
  5. Then hit Block in the pop-up menu for the website.

I'll keep an eye out for your reply. If you have further questions besides system performance, feel free to include them in the comments. We're here to assist you 24/7.

Thanks so much for the info! Followed your advice and cleared my cache in Chrome, we'll see how it goes.

Since I am working on a Mac I am using Safari mostly but was advised to use Chrome when logging into QBO. I will try both and see how it goes and if I encounter anymore problems with certain functions freezing up/being unresponsive.

thanks also for the info on the adds, I'll give the pop-up blocker a try, just a nuisance really especially since I am not used to this having worked with the Desktop for Mac version.

Thanks for the info! I followed your advice and cleared my cache, hoping that will solve the problem going forward!

Since I am working on a Mac I am usually using Safari but was advised that I should use Chrome when working in QBO.

I'll try to alternate between the two to see if I encounter any further problems working with one or the other.

Regarding the Add's I'll give the pop-up blocker a try, it's just a nuisance really since I am not used to this having worked on Desktop for Mac previously. It forces additional, unnecessary keystrokes and interrupts the flow of work.

For the past couple weeks, Quickbooks online with contractors is not usable. It's slow and the screen freezes. I have a MAC desktop and use Chrome.

We pay at least 50+ contractors every month and I can't pay them when Quickbooks is freezing up. I called, and got this case number: 15118565509. I was essentially told QB is aware of the issue but no timeframe to fix it. Here is what I have to say, if you can't get this fixed and fixed yesterday, I am going to go with different software. I don't want desktop software, I use online. QB keeps going up on their cost and then what we get isn't usable. Thanks.
