Change Default week for recording time

Intro: This is a question related to Time entry HOWEVER, I do not use the QB Time service. I just enter time records into standard QB Online.

Question: Is it possible to change the default setting for the week displayed when entering time? See the screen shots below. When I go to enter a time record, QB defaults to Last Week. Since I want to enter current time records, I always have to change to This week.

My question: Is there a way to set This week to be the default? I can't find a setting anywhere. It doesn't make sense for me to enter time for last week when I am working in this week. Best would be to have it default to the current date.

I have searched for this answer and spent fruitless time on chat but can't get an answer.

Many thanks.

Change Default week for recording time

I recognize the significance of modifying the QuickBooks Online time entry default week, @Saff. Let me provide some insights about it.

Currently, the option to default the current week is unavailable in QBO. Thus, you'll need to manually do it by selecting the This week option from the drop-down.

Find out more information about handling weekly timesheets: Enter a weekly timesheet in QuickBooks Online.

I'll also add this helpful guide about creating a single day or event at a time: Enter a single-time activity timesheet.

Dear QB Team - Please fix this!  It's a pain to have to always change it from the prior week and leads to rework and inefficiency.... which, come on, we know that's not the QB/QBO way!

Hi there, @Martha_S.

I see how beneficial it is for your business to have the option to default to the current week rather than manually entering it. However, as provided by my colleague above, this feature is currently unavailable.

Change Default week for recording time

I see after all this time, QB still can't figure out how to fix there software to default to this week for a timesheet.

A question for the programmers or marketing gurus who are making these idiotic settings in Quickbooks: Have you ever punched a clock? When you walked up to the timeclock, did you have to tell the time clock what da or week it was? No, the time clock was setup to punch in the date & time that it was.

It is also ridiculous that if you enter time in the morning, then save it, it kicks you back out, and when you go back to the employee to enter time, you have to first select this week again, and when you do, the timesheet assumes you want to log time for the first day of the week that has no time. So, today, a Thursday, it tries to have me add additional time on Friday.

Is it really that hard to default to this week, and to TODAY?

How many of your customers really want to log time for last week today? I am going to guess that 99.9% of your clients want to log time this week, but your software is setup for the other 0.1% who want to log last week.

I really think that programmers and marketing people need to go get a real job somewhere, maybe flipping burgers in California for $20 per hour, and see how a real business works.

I appreciate your time for joining the conversation in the Community, @Truckboy.

Currently, QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not have a built-in feature that allows you to default to the current week automatically. You have to enter it manually. However, QuickBooks Online frequently updates its features and functionality, so I suggest that you send feedback to our software engineers to include this capability in the future.

Do you have any suggestions on how to improve the program? You can easily send your feedback to QuickBooks Online by following these steps:

  1. Select Settings, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit feedback.

Your feedback is essential to us and goes directly to our Product Development team, which helps improve your QuickBooks Online experience. You can also track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Additionally, you can visit the Feedback Forum page to keep track of the progress of your feature request.

If you have any questions about other processes in QuickBooks Online, please feel free to ask me in the comments below. Have a fantastic day!

Let me see if I can decipher this Marketing talk into English.

Quickbooks hired a programmer and they wrote some software. The programmer had never operated a business and was paid by the job, not by the hour, so he has never punched a clock. Further, the Marketing experts who helped write the operating parameters for the software to be developed had never operated a business or punched a clock.

Quickbooks believes that anyone reporting time should keep paper notes for what they do all week, so next week, they can pull up a timesheet and enter their time. Only a fool crazy enough to buy our software would try to report time in real time. The number of customers who would want to report time in the same week, much less the same day, would be so small, it is not worth updating our software to deal with that small portion of our customers.

Now, here is the reality:

Most people punch the clock on the same day they work. No, they don't wait till next week to punch the clock for this week. They literally try to track their time on the same day, maybe even the same hour, they do the work.

Further, once I go through the trouble of telling Quickbooks that I live in the present week, not last week, Quickbooks still has a silly default. If I enter time for Monday, then go do some other work, and come back to enter more time, it jumps to the first open day with a zero time to enter, thus wanting me to enter time in the future. I guess Quickbooks is into time travel.
