Is a laser printer more preferable than say an injet?
It's nice to see you back here in this thread, @natalie345. Let me guide you in choosing the best printer for printing checks in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
There are many distinctions when comparing laser and inkjet printers.
An inkjet printer utilizes ink cartridges to print a variety of office materials. Since keeping up with pre-printed checks in a checkbook is challenging, businesses use this to print off checks. It's also best for small images, documents, and photos. For check printing, it's a popular option due to its relatively low cost and multipurpose functions.
On the other hand, a laser printer prints secured checks and financial papers. If your business needs to publish plenty of them in a given month, the laser printer is a more suitable option for you since it is capable of printing at a high volume.
You may visit the Intuit Market to search for checks compatible with your printer.

Hello,
I have been printing page oriented (single Sheet) QuickBooks checks on a inkjet printer for years now. I am in the market for a new printer but I have been having a time trying to find an inkjet printer to do this. Brother printers are not able to print this single sheet style. They have laser printers with MICR capability that will do it but I would like not to have to throw away a few thousand single sheet checks that I purchased from QuickBooks! Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), arranging a printer for your checks and reports depends on your setup. It might be the print dialog from your browser, Adobe Acrobat, or your printer's driver.
Currently, having a separate setup for your checks is unavailable in QBO. With this, I recommend sending your insights to our development team so they can be notified regarding this situation and may consider your insights in their future updates.
