Clergy Houing Cash once a month

You've come to the right place, @lmcleod.

You can create a clergy housing payroll item. Then, you can include it when creating your first paycheck every month. I can guide you on how to do it.

Here's how to create a payroll item:

  1. Go to the Workers or Payroll menu.
  2. Select the Employees tab.
  3. Double-click on the employee's name.
  4. Click Edit employee.
  5. Scroll down to the question How much do you pay this employee?, select Add additional pay types.
  6. Mark the Clergy Housing (Cash) checkbox.
    • If the payroll item is not in the Additional pay types list, select Even more ways to pay this employee to see more payment types.
  7. Click Done.

You can repeat the same process for all the employees that you'll be paying with the Clergy Housing allowance. Once completed, just make sure to put a checkmark on the pay item when creating your first paycheck of the month. Here's how:

  1. Click the Payroll or Workers menu.
  2. Choose the Employees' tab.
  3. Pick the Run Payroll button.
  4. From the Run Payroll window, click the Gear Icon above the Total Pay column.
  5. Mark the payroll item you want to include in the paycheck.
  6. Enter the Clergy Housing amount
  7. Follow the onscreen instruction to complete the payroll.

Once completed, you can view the Payroll Details report. Just a heads-up, make sure not to put any amount on the Clergy Housing (Cash) column when creating your second check for the month. This way, the employee will not be paid twice. You can refer to this article for more in-depth insights about preparing payroll for clergy or church: Clergy and church payroll.
