Quickbooks desktop pro 2021. I have 2 small company files and have this problem with both of them. Every time I close Quickbooks the text " [conflicted] " gets added to the file name. After a week my file names look like this --> Companyname [conflicted] [conflicted] [conflicted] [conflicted] [conflicted] [conflicted] [conflicted].QBW
I have tried repairing, verifying and rebuilding the file from the utilities menu. I have also run all the options in the Tool Hub. I have backed up the files and restored them in a new directory. The problem persists. Other than changing the file name Quickbooks works normally. I don't get any error messages. There is no indication of what the problem might actually be.

A Google Search (https://www.google.com/search?q=Quickbooks++%22%5Bconflicted%5D%22+in+file+name) suggests that this happens when the company file is in a Dropbox folder. If that applies in your case, the solution is to not use a Dropbox folder.
Hi there, Amal. Thanks for raising this concern here in this forum. Let me share some valuable information on why you're getting this error.
An outdated version of QuickBooks Desktop Pro might cause the issue. When a version is no longer supported, you'll encounter company file and compatibility matters, leading to performance issues that affect your productivity and experience. Additionally, you won't receive updates or security patches
Moreover, since you've already troubleshot this issue by verify-rebuild and using the QuickBooks Tools hub, and the issue still persists, let's have you uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks to fix the file issue you're experiencing.
Before we proceed, ensure that you've already created a backup company file. Once done, let's go ahead and do the process.
Remove your QuickBooks Desktop
Afterward, let's install your QuickBooks again. Your QuickBooks will automatically install a new folder and rename your old ones. If this didn't resolve the issue, you can manually uninstall QuickBooks and rename its installation folders. To learn more about the process, you can refer to this article: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop.
Furthermore, you can also contact our support team so they can further investigate this issue and resolve the main cause of it. They are equipped with the necessary tools and expertise that can help find the root cause of this matter.
I'll include this article you can check out this article if you want to personalize a report in QuickBooks to generate the data you needed: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
We'll always be happy to serve and help you if you encounter any issues with your company file, Amal. Just drop by in this forum and we'll be around to assist you.
Well, that was a colossal waste of time. Fresh backups, uninstall QB, fresh installation of QB, restore company files. Same result. Maybe the 'File Doctor' could fix it. When I click the File Doctor button on the tool hub it says to wait for it to load but I could wait all day it never loads.
Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. If you don't find any error message, your company files should be fine. You can create a backup file and restore it with a new name to remove those [conflicted].
Thanks but the verify and rebuild utilities don't pick up any errors. And yes, I've renamed the files. But after opening and closing the file it gets the [conflicted] text inserted into the file name again.

@Amal Shookup RE: after opening and closing the file it gets the [conflicted] text inserted into the file name again.
QuickBooks isn't doing this. It does not automatically rename company files as you open or close them. Something else, such as Dropbox, is doing this.
Thanks Big Red. Not Dropbox but the folder is being backed up on P-Cloud. It's been set up like this for a good while but only giving me trouble this month. Anyway, I've copied the company files to a folder not attached to P-Cloud and seems to be working OK. Bummer, because I'd like to back these up as easily as I back up the rest of my personal files.
I'm sure you've nailed it. Looking in the P-Cloud folder I see 15 instances of each company file all with various quantities of [conflicted] stuck in the file name. Do you have any idea why this is only happening with QB files and not anything else in the P-Cloud backup?
I don't know the trigger, but it seems that P-cloud thinks there is a conflict as you open or close the file, as if someone else (or some other process) has a lock on the file. That might happen if P-cloud is backing up the file as you open it. If it's a very large file you may be hitting it over and over for that reason, as backing up takes a long time in that case.
