Copy my online back up

I'll help you obtain a copy, Mrbucks1.

To get your online backup, let's sign in to Intuit Data Protect and then restore the file first. Here's how to do it:

  1. On your computer's system tray, right-click the IDP icon (green padlock).
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Select Restore from Backup.
  4. Choose the date and time of the backup you want to restore.
  5. Pick the file, then tap Continue.
  6. Select a location and then click Restore.

Once done, manually back up your accounting data. After that, go to your local folder, then copy and paste it to your thumb drive. The default path for QuickBooks Desktop company files is C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files.

Finally, I recommend visiting our FAQ page to learn more about how IDP works.

Copy my online back up

I made a lot of changes and I want to take the backup from Jan 2nd and put it on my laptop. The laptop shows backed up back in August and it does not show the back up from Jan 2nd. I want to save it there in case I had errors in my 40 or so changes. Can I get the download from my online back up for my desktop from my laptop. It only shows the old ones since I only use the laptop when I travel.

Long story short I need to compare these entries for accuracy. So, if I can copy the desktop bakcup to a thumb drive that would solve my issue as would being able to download the desktops backup from my laptop.

I would think I would have access to the online backup from anycomputer with QB on it. The easiest thing to do, if possible, is to access the online back up from Jan 2nd, which was the desktops current backup before last night.

Thanks

Copy my online back up

Thanks for coming back here with an update, @Mrbucks1. Let me show you how we can manually back up the files in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) using Intuit Data Protect (IDP) and get a copy from January 2.

Intuit Data Protect is a subscription service to back up your QBDT files and folders. Once we set it up, we can make backups every day and schedule them at your preferred time.

Since the files from January 2 aren't showing on your end, it's possible that there's no backup file created. In that case, let's make a manual backup. To do that:

  1. Right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon. It's a green padlock on the Windows toolbar. Then, click Open Intuit Data Protect.
  2. Select Back up now.
  3. Choose the files and folders you like to back up, and click Continue.
  4. Select Back up now. A message will prompt that says the backup is successful.
  5. Please click OK.

Once done, we can follow the steps provided above by KlentB to restore the file and copy them to your thumb drive.

If you've encountered errors while backing up your data files with IDP, I've got you an article on how to fix them: Unable to back up with Intuit Data Protect. It has multiple suggested steps you can follow so we can successfully create a backup file of your QBDT.

Here's an article if you want to learn how to streamline your company data file with Condense Data utility: Use the Condense Data utility. It's an option to remove the audit trail that reduces the file size to improve system performance.

Stay in touch with us if you have further questions about making a backup file for your company in QBDT. Just leave a reply below, and we'll be there to answer them. Stay safe, and have a nice day!
