Crashes on Sonoma

This would be awesome support to alow 2019 and 2020 owners a license upgrade to 2021.

I resolved to get QB 2019 to work on a newly created Mac Volume. I had to add a Volume (not password protected), buy a bootable installer, as the M2 Macbook Air could not seem to create one, install OS Ventura, and then access the QB 2019 application on my other volume (with Sonoma) "Data" didn't copy the application to the new volume. Then I added my QB 2019 company file, and now I just have to boot to the other volume whenever I need to do invoicing. Hopefully, the next update of Sonoma fixes this. As QB 2019 requires rosetta, not sure if that is the issue or not. 2019 may never run on Sonoma or later, so I'll just keep the Ventura Volume which is a clean install and only there for QB 2019.

Did you save previous backups? If you didn't check "overwrite last backup," you could have it, QB makes a disk image of it and saves the file, I must have a ton of them.

Also, Time Machine should also have a backup of that file you can open TM and just restore that one file.

I also turned on beta updates on my Mac and updated to 14.1 Beta and my QB 2020 version opened up no problem.  So for me the problem seems to be fixed as of now.

Question regarding the beta update, you say your Quickbooks opens fine, my QB 2019 also opens fine but as soon as I try to make an invoice it then crashes. Are you able to create an invoice?

Intuit and QB is a scam like it would be in 2023 if you had to buy  MS Word every month.

I just installed Sonoma Beta 3 and was able to 1) Open QB 2019 2) Add a customer 3) Create the invoice and 4) Mark the invoice paid. It seems to be working (thankfully). It's a shame that Apple took care of this with their update, and that Intuit was happy to leave us high and dry. I am going to use this opportunity to get everything in order and then migrate to a new software. There will be a learning curve for sure, but Intuit handled this really poorly and gave NO guidance.

Forgive me as I am not terribly tech savvy. But is the Sonoma Beta 3 the version that would be downloaded for me if I were to upgrade to Sonoma now...or is Beta 3 still a "test version" that is not yet on the regular site? I really want to hold off on Sonoma until I know QB 2019 will work. Thanks

On the Mac, in System Settings, then General, then Software Update, I clicked yes to Beta Updates. I had already upgraded to Sonoma not knowing about this QB 2019 issue, so I have been stuck the last 2 weeks. I figured I could try to see if the Beta would get me back in business, and it did. If you haven't upgraded to Sonoma already, I would hold off and wait for this Beta release to become the actual next Sonoma release.

The 14.1 Beta 3 is noted to work with QB 2019.  Although full functionality is still unknown. Mac OS 14.1 Beta 3 is expected to be an official release (not beta) at the end of October, possibly sooner as there is no developer release beyond it.

If you’re tech savvy you can also add a Ventura volume and just install QB 2019 on it.

If you haven’t updated to Sonoma yet, then hold off for now and follow the posts here to verify full functionality on Sonoma 14.1 after it’s released and people have had time to work with it.

I havent created an invoice w/ the new beta version but the basic functions have worked.  I am not a power user.  Have simple needs so no need to pay $100/mo.  So far so good but I dont deal w/ any online downloads, I manually enter all transactions bc I have like 10 per month.

I to have been researching. The problem is all these other options are also cloud base programs. Have you found a desktop version to use?

I too have been researching. All these recommended accounting services are cloud based. Have you found any you can download and use with out having to have internet connection?

@CristiM_Ww

If you only need basic features, we can recommend one program (not a cloud based app). They offer a paid version only for the cloud app. Contact me in private for details.

Any luck with Beta 4.1 Ver 4?   Just released today.  I gave up waiting and created a bootable Ventura disk to use 2019 with my MacBook Air & iMac running Sonoma 4.0.  When  I need to invoice, I reboot into Ventura. Works fine.  Will upgrade to Sonoma 4.1 when get confirmation that it works.  4.1 Beta 3 made things sound promising.  Interested in those using 4.1 beta 4 to see if 2019 remains functional.

@CristiM_Ww , I have found a few but honestly nothing with as rich of an interface and functionality as Quickbooks. I have the last one time fee license version of 2021 for Mac. Once the Mac OS is updated to a point that QB will not work for me anymore and QB is no longer supporting it (May 2024) I will just freeze my OS there and have a dedicated computer for just accounting. I will probably buy a used MacBook for this and spend about as much as a one year subscription would cost. I do not want my records on the cloud or be required internet access to do my accounting.

Spoiler

The new release is 14.1rc (Release Candidate), so it's close to release. Likely, within a few days now, 14.1 will be a stable release. I will keep the Ventura Volume and recommend that to anyone on QB2019; in case there are bugs or future releases, you'll have a solid backup. Fingers crossed that this release has QB2019 fully functional. My guess is it will, since no one has reported any issues here with QB2019/2020/2021 on 14.1b3.

I love your perspective on buying a used macbook just of using QB 2019 or 2021. You are correct that the cost would be less than an annual subscription without the worry of cloud-based privacy.

@kbcod2 , hopefully you did a time machine backup prior to your upgrade to Sonoma. If true, you can reload that specific backup to your mac. If you have not been doing these backups, this would be a good practice to start. I make sure I have a current backup prior to any OS update just in case it breaks something and I need to roll it back.

Thanks, yeah I was lucky to have an older 13" model with Ventura and will not upgrade it for as long as I can. Apple still releases updates for it and should for a while longer. Even once they stop updating Ventura I don't even need to bring this Mac online because I can just do my accounting on it and export the file for my accountant.

I manually print invoices as PDF and email them to customers outside of QB. I had fits with QB communicating correctly with my mail server (all SPF, DKIM, DMARC records correctly in place), customers said they were not receiving my invoices. When I email them manually it's foolproof.

It's a shame to have workarounds for what we paid for (I've bought QB 3 or 4 times now), but I've learned to deal with it.

I also have QB 2019 desktop and, UNFORTUNATELY, didn't see any of this stuff until too late. Backed up most recently on 10/11 and upgraded (??? NOT) to Sonoma that afternoon. Didn't try to reopen for a week -- and YUK! Still no progress? Haven't been able to find ANY advice worth taking from QB!!!
