create a copy of quickbooks file

My accountant wants me to send a portable quickbooks file.  I'm using QB 2020 for Mac.  I see in the community is says to go to FILE, then CREATE A COPY, then select save a portable file.  I'm logged in as an Administrator, but when I click FILE, there is no option to CREATE A COPY.  I can choose backup, save for accountant, import, export, etc, but there is NO option to create a copy to get the process started.  What do I need to do differently?

Thank you for adding your first post here in the Community, @claytonb3. I'm here to share with you some information about sending a copy of your QuickBooks file to your accountant in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

Usually, the option to create a portable copy of the Desktop file is available in QBDT for Windows. In QBDT for Mac, you'll have to create a backup of your file or export your data manually so you can send them to your accountant.

Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu.
  2. Click on Back Up.
  3. Select the folder to store your backup.
  4. Tap on Start Backup.

You can also schedule automatic backups of your company file. Here's how: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

I can see the importance of creating a copy of your file to send to your accountant. Rest assured our engineers are working nonstop to enhance the product and deliver the best experiences to all QuickBooks users. To check for QuickBooks updates, you may visit our blog.

In case you want to restore a backup copy of your file, check out this article as your guide: Restore your backup company files for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about your QBDT files. I'll be right here to help. Have a good one!

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I was already able to export a copy in Windows format to send to my accountant, but he requested the portable file because it's easier for him to work with.  Unfortunately, per your response, that function doesn't exist (at least yet) in QB for Mac.

Imho, strange that your accountant refuses to restore your QBB (backup file) and insists on accepting QBM (portable file) instead. As long as your accountant is able to open your file, any file format should be fine. If you don't have anyone to help create a QBM file for your accountant, contact us in private for assistance.
