create a dummy copy of company file

Desktop Premier Profession 2021

We are planning to create a copy of our company file for practice/learning purposes.  It will be used for the entire A/R workflow, so employees will understand Sales (work) Order-Invoice-Receive Payment.

We would like to fully simulate receiving payments for fake invoices.   I understand how to create a dummy bank account; however, am not certain what of the best option for the test payment.

Suggestions?  or link to a good article about it.

create a dummy copy of company file

Hello there, KJatWork. I'm here to assist you through creating a copy of your company file for testing purposes in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

I agree with 4Gal that you can create a backup file and restore it with another name. Also, you can create a new company file or use the sample company file for testing purposes.

In addition, this article outlines the various methods of tracking customer transaction workflows in QBDT.

You can create a backup file (*.qbb) and restore it with another name as a dummy file (e.g dummy.qbw).

Thank you - we understand that part.  I'm looking for guidance on the best way to set up simulated payment receipts from customers, assigning to deposit accounts.  I know there are limits to practicing full ar/ap practices since this is in a sandbox.  But would like to get employees used to doing as much as possible with our particular company data (albeit several months old) in a safe environment.
