Create New List

I added a custom field in the "additional information" tab of the edit customer section.  How can I make this field a drop down list to be populated?  I've scoured the software, but I do not see any way to create my own free-form list anywhere.  Any help here is greatly appreciated!

Create New List

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @BME.

It's my pleasure to help share information about adding custom field to the customer profile.

Yes, we can customize or define fields in the customer profile by going to the  Additional Info section. However, we don't have the option to make the field created with the drop-down list. You'll just have to type the detail or information manually beside the field created.

If you think having drop-down list on the field created, I suggest sending this idea straight to our product engineers/developer for future product updates. To send your product suggestions:

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click on Product Suggestion.

Stay in touch if you have any other questions about customizing fields, I'm always here to help. Wishing you the best!

You typically can repurpose a provided list, already. That way, it is also in the reporting and input screens and forms functions for you. For instance, I use Customer Account Number to hold the Serial Number of their installed water meter in a water district file that I manage.

For this: "but I do not see any way to create my own free-form list anywhere."

That is available only in QB Enterprise. That is called Combo Box.

What you created is a Freeform Alpha-numeric Text field for you to Populate by entering something in it. It isn't defined as date or a list maintained anywhere. You can see this in my Attached example of Spouse Name. I would not have used Spouse Name as is seen in this data file, because we have Contacts management in the customer center, now.
