credit card reconcilliation

I last entered my credit card transactions, reconcilled and paid the total amount due.  I just added new transactions, (the old transactions were checked in the register and a payment was listed) and the total is matching my current statement.  when I went to reconcile, the beginning balance was from my old statement that I had already paid?!  What did I do wrong?

Let me help you trace where this discrepancy is coming from, @trtexcavation.

We can run a Previous Reconciliation Report in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, we can find out why the beginning balance is still showing the same amount after you reconcile it. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Banking. Then, click Previous Reconciliation.
  2. From the Account drop-down menu, select the account you reconciled.
  3. In the Statement Ending Date section, select the reconciliation period you want to review.
  4. Select Detailed or Both for the report type. We recommend Detailed if you're using the report to fix a reconciliation.
  5. Select which transactions you want to see on the report.
  6. Click Display.

To get more info and narrow in on specific details, you can customize this report.

You can also run a Reconciliation Discrepancy report. This report shows any transactions that were changed since your last reconciliation. Just follow these steps:

  1. Click the Reports menu and select Banking. Then click Reconciliation Discrepancy.
  2. Select the account you're reconciling and then click OK.
  3. Review the report. Look for any discrepancies.

I just uploaded the report - can you tell what I did wrong?  Let me know if you don't get it.reconcilliation report.png

Hello @trtexcavation,

Your ending balance is your beginning balance in your next reconciliation period. Your beginning balance becomes incorrect if you've voided, deleted, modified, or cleared your previously reconciled transactions.
