Buy nowGreetings,
I created a couple Custom Fields and would like to know how I can add those fields to a Journal Entry. Also, I have successfully added those fields to my Invoices and Expenses which is working ok. However, I have only found a way to add those fields at the header level, not to entries within the transaction. For example, one Custom Field I added was "Job#" and lets say I get a vendor invoice from a staffing company that includes expenses for multiple temporary employees who have worked on multiple jobs. I would like to be able to enter the invoice as a Bill and spread the charges out to the different Job#s the temporary employees worked on. Currently, I'm only able to apply the Bill to one Job#. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.
Good morning, @WWWatPremierCreativeGroup.
It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I can provide you with some information about custom fields and give you answers to your questions.
For the first question you asked, there isn't a way to add custom fields to journal entries. However, I'll give you two articles to give you more details about both of them and what they can do:
As for your second question, it seems like you want to apply multiple job numbers to a single bill. This won't work because QuickBooks Online allows for one of each custom field per transaction. Perhaps you could separate the job numbers by a comma within one field. If that doesn't work, I would consider using a different feature like tags.
I hope this helps answer both of your questions. If you need any more assistance, don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes!
Thanks for the feedback @Candice C , I really appreciate it! However, I have already looked into all those options you mentioned and none will work for what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm actually very surprised that QB does not have the functionality I'm looking for and I'm equally surprised that more users haven't asked for it.
I absolutely love the idea of custom fields because it allows me to perform special reporting and analysis specific to our company. However, if I can't enter our custom fields into a JE and can't break a single vendor invoice down to different custom field values (Job# in our case), than the use of custom fields becomes useless to me. Seems like this is something QB could accomplish without too much effort, but than again, I'm a number cruncher, not an IT guru. I love QB but it looks like I'll have to find another accounting software that can perform this simple functionality.
I appreciate you getting back to us, @WWWatPremierCreativeGroup.
