If you are using the Plus edition, it means you are using a subscription license and you have to renew it every year. You don't need to upgrade your version to 2023 but they want you to keep paying for the annual subscription. Login to your CAMPS as the Primary Contact to check your license information.

Also, the life cycle of one-time license or non-subscription software is three years. To the original question, yes you have to pay every year, Quickbooks is a subpar product that has figured out how to keep the money rolling in. Remember, shareholders come first!!
