desktop quick book to online quickbooks

I have quicks books desktop for Mac. somehow it has had an error and will no longer open. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and that did not seem to work. I will switch to quickbooks online. The issue is that I cannot open the desktop version there for I cannot export my date to the online file. I do have my latest backup of my company file.

is there a way to open my desktop company file from the online version or simply upload it?

Thank you

JR

Thank you for performing some initial steps to be able to open your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, @jrdaviswork. Let me assist you further and ensure you can migrate your file to QuickBooks Online.

First off, may I know why you can't open QuickBooks? Did you happen to encounter any error messages? If yes, I'd like to ask for additional information so I can provide you with an appropriate solution. Additionally, it would be helpful to know the version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac that you are using. Any additional information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Alternatively, you can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to continue. Then, restore your backup file in the trial account.

  1. Double-click the backup file which opens a new window with a copy of your company file. If there are attachments in the backup, you'll see an Attachments Library folder.
  2. Drag the company file copy to your QuickBooks company folder. If there's an Attachments Library, drag that folder to the same location. To avoid overwriting an existing company file, move the backup copy to a different folder.
  3. Open QuickBooks for Mac trial version.
  4. Click Browse and navigate to the folder where you stored the company file copy. Choose the company file and click on Open.
  5. A prompt lets you know that you are opening a backup file. Select Continue.
  6. Enter a name for the company file, then Save.
  7. Hit OK.

After that, you can now import your QBDT company file into QuickBooks Online
