RE: So now that you have seen it for yourself, how can we get it fixed?
Well, everybody is going to see it after they patch QuickBooks to R14. I'm sure Intuit will eventually pull their collective head out of the sand and notice the resulting chorus of complaints.
They will also, no doubt, internally come up with an excuse re: why they don't effectively test QuickBooks before releasing updates and then pat themselves on the back for doing a reasonably good job, remembering how very hard they worked fixing things for us folks.
Meanwhile, folks like us will just have to wait until they get around to fixing it - if they ever do. I'd not hold your breath.
@ZackE RE: Since your Edit Item window is displaying larger than normal and changing the display settings for QuickBooks didn't fix it, you'll want to try adjusting your view preferences.
Or, ZackE, you could have just fired up the latest release of QB 2020 - R14 - and tried it yourself. And you'd have seen it like I do. And everyone else with R14.
There are no amount of video settings or rebuilding or whatever that will fix this. Only Intuit can fix this mess they created.

Oh, that part is easy to understand. See, people like me use QuickBooks for bookkeeping, but Intuit uses QuickBooks only to make money, so as long as people like me keep paying the ransom, there's not much incentive for them to make it any better.
Intuit once had one of a small handful of the original "killer apps" in Quicken for DOS, but somewhere along the way, they lost the art of fire. The goal shifted from making the best possible software, to making the most possible money, no matter matter how bad than might be for the customers who elevated intuit into the position of the de-facto standard in bookkeeping software.
Thanks y'all for confirming this really annoying "new feature" is truly a newly created bug that hopefully Intuit will fix shortly. I can confirm it does not occur in v2021 - it only occurs in v2020 (I use both for various clients)
QB Desktop resizes a lot of its edit windows by default. My resolution is 1920x1080
Look at scaling in Windows Display settings. It should be at 100 %
A simple solution that will save everyone a lot of headaches is for QBs to put a scroll bar on every window, period, if all the window is not showing. Simple.
Why should I have to change my PC display options when using QBs
All the other programs work
SAME THING HERE! I have attached what it looks like for me when I create a new item. It has only been a few months, maybe a year, that this has changed. The window used to be small and neat, just bigger than where the Inactive toggle box is on the bottom right. Basically all the extra white space was not there and the window used to be able to be resized. I used to be able to refer to the list easily and add multiple new items, it was a breeze! Now I can barely get to anything behind it if I need to refer to it for the entry or edit of a list item and the bottom of the window is off the screen. My resolution is set to 1920x1080 and is the recommended size for my 24" monitor, no way that it the problem. Very frustrating! I too would like to see this returned to it's former functionality/size.
I do see where people finally can see it is a real issue and not user specific. I hope it gets resolved.
Same for support. They don't want to help unless you upgrade to a subscription. They said 2020 was the last year 'on a shelf' and soon they will stop supporting it altogether! Total horse poop if you ask me! We paid for a program and they are forcing us into a subscription or we will lose functions overtime not allowing us to do what we paid for it to do....GREEDY! My husband has a copy on a computer that has never been online. He does his accounting in there, but no payroll. Doesn't even send an invoice. He has never even ran an update on his version. I believe it is from 2007. Works wonderfully and I quite enjoy using it when I need to help with the entries.
be sure your scale is set 100%
It is under the Display settings on your PC
I'm sorry David, but this has nothing to do with the actual problem at hand.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen Intuit fix anything in a very long time.
Thanks for letting us know of your experience in this thread, @MrMark. This isn't what we want you to experience.
Since you've tried all the suggested fix shared in this thread, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can conduct a screensharing session with your permission to check what's causing this to behave that way and help you fix it.
For your comments and suggestions, you can also fill this Feedback form to send them directly to our engineers. I'm sure your thoughts will help us improve our product and services to you.
You're always welcome to post your other concerns again. Take care!
Now that Intuit seeks to increase the cost of QuickBooks by 350 percent, this is almost a moot point, but do you imagine that I haven't already contacted the "customer care" team? I'm gotten no meaningful help from Intuit on this. If there is a solution, then post it right here for everyone to see. And if there is no solution, then just own up to that fact, right here, for everyone to see. This isn't an attempt to help me - it is an attempt to create the illusion that people get help in this forum. But anyone who has ever spent any time in the forum can easily see that it is full of answers that don't match the questions. I can't remember ever getting any help from Intuit on anything. Ever. And that's saying something, because I've been suffering with QuickBooks since the DOS era! Quicken for DOS was killer software. QuickBooks never lived up to the reputation of Quicken. Not then, and certainly not now that you've made it too expensive to make any sense for a small business.
RE: And if there is no solution, then just own up to that fact, right here, for everyone to see.
What, and lose face? You're asking the impossible. No, that will never happen.
RE: But anyone who has ever spent any time in the forum can easily see that it is full of answers that don't match the questions.
Again, really? You're expecting reps to actually read and understand the question? Preposterous!
Well, since Intuit has made the wretched software so expensive that we can't afford to buy it anymore, I don't have much to lose by calling it the way I see it. I hope something will shake loose in the very near future, but until some other company steps up to fill the void left by Intuit, it seems very unlikely that any of us will have enough influence to inspire Intuit to change for the better.
Worked perfect for me. I was having trouble with getting my Make Deposit window smaller so it wouldn't cover up everything. Thank you!!!!!!
Never had an issue with the 'Edit Item' screen being the right size and this morning it is now about 2-1/2 times the normal size and nothing I've tried seem to fix it. I've been using QB since 2014. I'm currently using the Accountant Desktop 2021.
A great pleasure to have you join us here in the Community, Carl. I understand the challenges it may bring to you and your business.
I'll share the guidelines you can perform if you see the font, sizing, or other display issues.
If your monitor has a newer high-resolution, you may need to modify your QuickBooks default settings. Here are the QuickBooks Desktop settings we recommend for optimal performance.
You may want to change the display settings in QuickBooks. Follow the steps below:
You may check if everything looks good. However, if the issue persists, you'll want to adjust your view preferences in QuickBooks. You can visit this article for detailed information and the further step you can perform: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop, please refer to Step 2.
Moreover, you'll want to ensure your scale is set to 100%. It is under the Display settings on your PC.
I'm also adding this article in case you want to increase productivity. You can use QuickBooks on multiple screens or in Multi-Monitor mode. It is a feature available in QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and later versions that will help you better manage your financial information.
For additional QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here in the Community. We're always available and willing to lend a hand to your queries. Have a great day ahead.
