"enter memorized transactions" window hidden when starting QB desktop

Sometimes when I open QB Accountant desktop 2020 on my Windows 10 PC, it allows me to enter my password and displays the usual account screens. But QB is frozen--no matter where I click in QB, nothing happens, except my computer beeps (telling me "no, you can't do that" :).

Turns out that QB is waiting for me to respond to the "enter memorized transactions" window prompt. But that window is hidden or just not displayed, so I can't respond to the prompt, and QB stays frozen. I can't even close QB normally; I have to use Task Manager to close it.

This all happens about 1/2 the time. Other times it opens fine. As a workaround, I turned off auto-entry on each memorized transaction.

I can't find anyone else having this problem. Any suggestions?

I can provide another troubleshooting step that may help fix this issue, @radiodave18.

Let's run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This helps resolve issues that cause QuickBooks Desktop to freeze.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can easily find it
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once done, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  6. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, choose Program Problems.
  7. Click Quick Fix my Program.
  8. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

You can also review this article for additional steps to fix issues when opening the company file: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working.

Then enable the auto-entry on each memorized transaction in QuickBooks.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our support team. They have the necessary tools to check your account and investigate the root cause of your concern. For detailed steps, please see this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
