Greetings, Elm.
I understand that you are having some trouble with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) as it is unable to access Microsoft Word to print collection letters. But don't worry, I am here to help you! I have a workaround that will enable you to complete your task and use all the features available in the program without any hassle.
To start we have to make sure to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to have the recent features and product improvements.
If we have verified that you meet the required criteria and you are still having trouble opening customer letters, the next step is to use the File Doctor tool to resolve any company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
Step 1: Download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub
QuickBooks Tool Hub helps to fix common errors. To use the Tool Hub, you need to close QuickBooks. For optimal performance, we recommend that you use Tool Hub on Windows 10, 64-bit. Follow these steps:
1. Close QuickBooks and Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file in a location where you can easily find it, such as your Downloads folder or Windows desktop.
Note: If you've installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be on the bottom.
2. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the tool hub and accept the terms and conditions.
4. After installation, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
Note: If you can't find the icon, search in Windows for QuickBooks Tool Hub and select the program.
Step 2: Run Quick Fix my File.
- Open the Tool Hub, select Company File Issues
- Then select Quick Fix my File.
- Once it completes, select OK and launch QuickBooks.
Step 3: Run QuickBooks File Doctor
1. Go to the tool hub and select Company File Issues.
2. Choose Run QuickBooks, File Doctor. It may take up to a minute for the file doctor to open.
Note: If the QuickBooks File Doctor doesn't open, you can search for QuickBooks Desktop File Doc and open it manually.
3. In QuickBooks File Doctor, select your company file from the drop-down menu. If you cannot find your file, choose Browse and search to locate it.
4. Select Check your file (middle option only) and click Continue.
5. Enter your QuickBooks admin password and then select Next.
The duration of the scan will depend on the size of your file. It may take up to 10-15 minutes, and even if it resolves the issue, the scan may still indicate an unsuccessful attempt. Once the scan is complete, launch QuickBooks and open your company file.
