But this is clearly a bug, because no matter what date I set, the error persists and I can't save the order.
Has anyone else encountered this? How can I fix it?
Hi there, @userespiryakova. The error about the missing exchange rate means QuickBooks Online couldn't find a currency rate for your purchase order date. This is often due to a mismatch between the vendor’s currency and the purchase order, or because there’s no exchange rate available for the selected date. To resolve this, you’ll want to make sure the vendor’s currency matches the purchase order and that the date you’re using has a valid exchange rate set.
Confirm the vendor's currency matches the currency used in the purchase order. You can check this in Expenses & Bills > Vendors.
When creating or editing the purchase order, set the date to a recent day where exchange rates are available. To do that, go to the Gear icon > All Lists > Currencies. Find your vendor's currency, click Edit currency exchange, and adjust the date from the Market Rate. You can also use the calendar icon to see available dates.
To adjust your currency rates, select Your Rate and then Save.

Both the supplier and the purchase order are in the same currency, the dollar.
And the purchase order date is recent, either late March or early April.
And none of your suggestions help.
Thanks for coming back and clarifying those details, userespiryakova. Since both your supplier and the purchase order are set to your home currency (USD), QuickBooks shouldn't ask for an exchange rate at all.
Usually, this error only appears if the vendor is set to a foreign currency and the exchange rate box is left empty, or if the purchase order date is set to a future date that doesn't have a market rate yet.
However, if you have confirmed that everything is set to your home currency and the date is correct, but you’re still experiencing the issue, it may be a technical problem that needs further investigation. In this case, I recommend reaching out to the Live Support team to review this further.
