Forced upgrade

I retired in 2020 and was using 2017 Accountant edition. I'm still using it for my personal accounting. I don't use it for anything that needs an annual update. This morning I wanted to look at my old company books, so I opened that and it said I needed to update, so I did.

At the end of the update it said I would have to  UPGRADE when I restarted. Now it's asking to install and I don't want any new Intuit programs. How do I get it to quit asking me if I want to install the upgrade?

Forced upgrade

I've got you covered, hthomas49. Allow me to provide everything you need to know about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) updates.

In QBDT, you'll receive a prompt to update so you have the latest features and product improvements. However, the 2017 version is no longer supported, which means that critical security patches and updates are no longer available. The prompt you receive means that the system detects that your file is out-of-date, and you must update it.

Since you don't want any new Intuit programs, it's best to ignore the prompt to upgrade. Upgrading QuickBooks Desktop means you wish to install the latest available version.

To continue accessing your file, let's ensure you can still open the 2017 program. If so, restore the backup copy of your old books and disregard the notification to update. As long as you can still open your data, everything is good.

Keep me posted here if you have further concerns about updating your QuickBooks. I want to ensure your success. Thanks for coming to the Community, and take care.

@hthomas49

You can ignore any message as long as you can run your QBD 2017 and open any of your company files.

Forced upgrade

That's what I have to do in Quicken to avoid a forced upgrade: Click on the "Red x" 15 or so times and it finally lets me in to my account.  Regarding my Quickbooks account, no such luck.  I failed to update my password within the required 3 months and was locked out of my own account.  When I called Intuit they forced me to upgrade from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online.  So I paid the subscription fee and one week and several calls to customer service I still can't get in to my account!  Intuit sent me a link to transfer my company file; I followed the directions exactly, and still can't get my file to transfer!  Now Intuit has closed my case.  I called customer service 30 minutes ago, and at precisely 6:00PM (quitting time), the customer service rep hung up on me.  Intuit, you took my money - the least you can do is give me a viable product in return.  I have been a customer for over 20 years and you are about to lose me.
