QuickBooks Online (QBO) imports transaction descriptions directly from your bank feed using the information provided by your financial institution.
While the option to directly edit the bank transaction description is unsupported, we can add and modify a description in the Memo field for each transaction. Updating the Memo will add clarifying notes or details, helping you better identify and organize these entries.
For detailed steps, here's how:
- From the left navigation menu, go to Transactions.
- Select Bank Transactions and click the transaction you wish to update
- Find the Memo field and enter your desired description or notes.
- Click Save to apply your changes.

Additionally, please check your bank feed settings to ensure that the option "Copy bank details to the Memo" is disabled. You can do this by navigating to the Gear icon from the Bank Transactions page. Turning off this setting helps prevent bank-provided descriptions from overwriting your manual Memo entries, allowing you to preserve your custom memos.
