How do I export all my details (mostly journal transactions as I have loads!) from QBO to CSV. Online Accountant wants to import these in CSV format

Hi there, @pezza.

We can only export journal entries and other transactions through Excel file in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, you can look for a converter that can convert Excel data to Comma Separated Value (CSV).

To export your journal entries, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and look for the Journal report.
  2. Select All Dates in the Report period drop-down arrow.
  3. Click the Export icon beside the small Gear icon, then choose Export to Excel.

You can export your customer transactions by going to the Sales menu and selecting All Sales. Then, click the Export icon beside the small Gear icon. Finally, click Export to Excel.

We can also export your vendor transactions to Excel by clicking the Expenses tab and going to the Expenses section. Finally, click the Export icon beside the small Gear icon and select Export to Excel.

Once done, you can look for a converter on the web and convert these data to CSV.

Also, you can customize your other reports if you wanted to export specific details of your transactions in QuickBooks.

How do I export all my details (mostly journal transactions as I have loads!) from QBO to CSV. Online Accountant wants to import these in CSV format

Thanks @ReymondO

However, I want to export FROM QBO.

Online Accountant can import journals but it wants a csv file

QBO can export journals but it dumps it as an xlsx report format grouped by Date and the Date, Type, No and Name only appears on the first journal item :-(

Adding these in manually will take me months.  I have thousands of journal entries.

It has taken me 4 hours so far trying to copy down each group of journals in the xlsx and not even half way through.  The problem is that I can go to the search and find and export those, but it just exports a single "amount" column and doesn't have all the columns that Accountant needs.

If I could export out my Chart of Accounts and then import that with all of the journal entries included then that would be fine.  Is that possible?

Just frustrating that the same QuickBooks brand from the same company doesn't allow export/import between its variances.

Hello there, pezza.

I appreciate your efforts in trying to export the journal entries and sharing with us the result. I know that time is essential when running a business. This is something that we don’t want to take away from you.

Allow me to provide an alternative way of getting all the data you need at once. Since exporting the Chart of Accounts and importing it with the entries is currently unavailable, you can consider using a third-party application to help achieve the task you want to do.

To easily find one, I suggest visiting the QuickBooks Apps Center. This is a one-stop place for applications that’s compatible with QuickBooks.

To narrow down the process, enter a keyword in the search field or use the Categories option. You can access the site through here: QuickBooks Apps.

For future reference, I’m adding some articles that provide an overview of the data you can import and export in QBO. You'll find detailed instructions on how to perform the tasks.

Let me know if you have any clarifications about importing and exporting data. I’ll pop right back in to answer them for you. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Utilize the trial period of TPExporter to export your JE to CSV

How do I export all my details (mostly journal transactions as I have loads!) from QBO to CSV. Online Accountant wants to import these in CSV format

Thanks for that.  Just been looking at a couple and was wondering about utilising the free trials.

I did notice though that the free trials have "limitations", so do they allow to export all of the transactions?

Certainly for JE's I am ok with the importing, as I can do that once I have my exported list in the correct format.

Some also worried me with the reviews as it sounded like there was a bit of pressure selling and also some people struggling to cancel, so have you had experience of this one?

Thank you, appreciate the help.

How do I export all my details (mostly journal transactions as I have loads!) from QBO to CSV. Online Accountant wants to import these in CSV format

Hi,

Just downloaded that app, but the free trial isn't going to help.  It only allows 50 rows to be exported and I have over 1,500.

Whilst in itself, that would not be an issue as I would run several (assuming the 50 is not a total!) exports and merge them, but the issue is that you can only filter on certain fields, none of which can control what I have already exported.  So chances are each time I export, it could export the same 50 rows.  I would have to choose date, but then I would need to make sure that there wasn't more than 50 in any period filtered.  I think this may take me longer.

However, I might bite the bullet and sign up for 1 month.  Just need to make sure I am not going to have a problem cancelling it after the month :-)

Thanks

Andrew

How do I export all my details (mostly journal transactions as I have loads!) from QBO to CSV. Online Accountant wants to import these in CSV format

No, this is no good.

Even paying only allows me 200 transactions per month.  That is a rip off.  It would take me almost a year before I could get out all my exports!

Thanks for the tip though.

@pezza

They provide many plans to choose. For your case, don't purchase the $10/month for 200 transactions. Contact and ask them switching to $25/month for unlimited transactions instead.

Hope it helps.

Not a problem, pezza. The Community is more than happy to help with any questions you have.

You're correct, some applications available in our QuickBooks App Store offer free trials which might have limitations. You can locate specific details about this on the Pricing tab of any app's webpage. You'll find that some of these third-party tools offer features like customer support for their products, in case a user bumps in to any issues.

Intuit isn't able to choose one for you, ultimately it's your decision. But just to paint a picture, one of the applications I'm seeing on our website which may come in handy is titled Import Excel | Google Sheets | CSV - Business Importer. It includes the ability to export transactions, such as journal entries, from one company to another.

Definitely perform a thorough check of reviews too, as you mentioned. This will help you to better make the decision of which route is best for your business.

I've included an animated image below to briefly show a visual example of how our app store works:

The Overview tab will detail what each tool has the capability of doing, while the FAQs page will help answer some common questions the developers are aware of.

Here's our resource archives for QuickBooks Online, you might find some of these articles useful: Help Resources

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Enjoy the rest of your day!
