How do I import selected fields into Products and Services?

Greetings,

I am trying to update all my product items with a Category, as previously they were entered without a category.

So the Code/Name is unique.

However, when I import using [Category]:[ProdName] as per import specs, I find it adds a NEW product with a correct category, EVEN if I selected "Overwrite all values for each product".

So it seems there is no way I can update selected fields in my list.

Is there a way around this problem?

Thanks for help.

It appears that despite selecting “Overwrite all values for each product,” new products are being created instead of updating existing ones with the correct category. Let me go further into this for you.

This suggests that the import functionality does not recognize the existing products properly based on the Code/Name identifiers you have input. To work around this, you can only update the products individually within your system.

While this process involves more manual effort than a bulk import, it ensures that your product data is updated accurately and avoids the issue of creating duplicate products.

How do I import selected fields into Products and Services?

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated.

However, the product name/service are correct, as I exported the list, so this list is identical to what is online.

I merely want to change the category, but it seems it creates a new entry, even though the product name is the same.

On my import facility, I can only use the old import method, which means I have to use [category]:[product].

Is there any way I can use the new import facility, which seems to have a separate category field?

I have 1500 product items, is it reasonable for quickbooks to expect me to manually change each one?

Thanks,

regards

How do I import selected fields into Products and Services?

Hi there, @ValleyT. We'll provide information to help import your modified product and service data inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before we proceed, we recommend sending feedback to our Product Development about the Overwrite all values for each product option when importing inventories. This way, they can evaluate your suggestion and consider having the option to prevent adding more items when importing but rather overwrite or rewrite the existing items with the updated ones. These are the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Select Feedback and then enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Once ready, click Next to submit feedback.

Also, you can utilize a third-party application to help you automate the handling and updating of inventories inside your company file. Feel free to check our official QuickBooks App Store: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/en-us/

On the other hand, we recommend checking this page to help you keep track of all your inventories inside the program: Set up and track your inventory in QuickBooks Online.
