How do I make an inactive account active again? Desktop 2022

I have Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022. I am trying to change an income account in my Chart of Accounts that is Inactive to Active again. I have read through all of the solutions I can find here, but none will work for me.  I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I don't see any option to make the account active. Thank you!

How do I make an inactive account active again? Desktop 2022

Good day, @JULISHAR,

Making sure you're able to reactivate an account in the Chart of Accounts is something I can help you with. When you’re ready to use the account again, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Lists menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click the Include inactive checkbox.
  3. Right-click on the account you want to make active again, then select Edit Account.
  4. Clear the Account is inactive checkbox.
  5. Select Save & Close.

If that option to Include Inactive is grayed out, it means you don't have any inactive accounts. If that happens, search the name of the income account in the Look for account name or number box, and pressing Search.

Here's an article with the details on how to manage and modify your Chart of Accounts: Add, edit, or delete accounts in QuickBooks Desktop.

Post here again if you have other questions or concerns about this topic or need any help with other QuickBooks Preferences. I'm always here to assist you.

Thank you for your prompt response. When I get to the screen to Edit the account, the "Account is Inactive" is grayed out and I can't choose it.

How do I make an inactive account active again? Desktop 2022

Hello there, JULISHAR.

If the customer happens to be a sub-customer of the parent customer in which the parent is inactive. You'll have to make the parent customer active again to be able to have the sub-customer active again also.

If the customer is not a sub-customer, let's try some other troubleshooting that could help fix the problem. This time, let's run the  Verify Rebuild Data tool that helps identify and repairs data issues within your company file. Here's what you'll need to do:

To Verify your data, here's how:

  1. Choose the File menu at the top, and then Utilities
  2. Select Verify Data.

If it detects any issue, proceed with the Rebuild Data process. Here are the steps how:

  1. Go to the File menu again, and then select Utilities
  2. Click Rebuild Data.
  3. You'll get the prompt to back-up your file, and then Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  4. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed"

Please read through this article for more information about it: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Click the Reply button if you have follow-up questions or any QuickBooks concerns. I'll be here to lend a hand. Thanks for dropping by.

It looks like the account you are trying to 'reactivate' is a subaccount of another account. My guess is THAT account is also inactive, which is preventing you from 'reactivating' the account you want to use. Uncheck that 'Subaccount of' button and you should be able to reactivate the account.
