Every time I log into my QBO account, many pages have "helpful" tip windows that pop up. I have been using QBO for many years, so I don't need a tour of my chart of accounts, I don't need an introduction to reconciling an account, I don't need to learn again how QuickBooks Online Accountant can help me run my practice, I don't need to "be in the know" and see all my clients' payroll info in one screen, I already "know it takes time to get used to new stuff" and don't need to watch Stuart, your reconciliation guy. And on and on and on.
Yes, I know, I can click the X on all of these helpful tips. And I'm sure that I loved them when I was new to QBO (if they were even a part of it back then). But given that I log into QBO several times--sometimes numerous times--over the course of a day, that is an awful lot of annoying and unnecessary clicking. And it is majorly annoying when a box stays open when I move to another page, where it is no longer relevant. And yes, I know that sometimes I can just ignore it and it will go away on its own, but in the meantime it takes up valuable screen real estate.
And I certainly don't need an empty window popping up every time I log in (see image). I've no idea what that's about.
Please don't tell me that the solution is to change browser settings that will make my browser less secure. I use my browser for things other than QBO, and there is too much nasty stuff out there that I need all the security I can get, while remaining vigilant about what I'm clicking.
What can I do?
Thanks!!!
Thank you for sharing detailed information, @donkiely.
I've come up with a solution that can help turn off the pop-up notification in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
The pop-up notifications are designed to suggest and guide you on how to improve your QuickBooks experience. Since it affects your navigation, you'll want to enable the pop-up blocker of your browser. This prevents pop-ups to show up. Here's how:
You can also search online for additional guidance on how to block pop-ups depending on the browser you're using.
Furthermore, I'm attaching this link that can efficiently guide you in supervising your account: Learn about QuickBooks Online with how-to videos.
If you have any other questions, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help, @donkiely.
Thanks for the response! But I'm afraid that my browser is already set to not allow pop-ups and redirects. And I don't get pop-up browser windows. Does QBO even use those? I don't know, since I have them turned off.
No, the windows I'm talking about are embedded in the page. If I were to dive into the JavaScript and CSS, I expect I'd find them defined there. These are part of the page, not a separate browser window. So that setting has no effect on the windows that I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Don
Hello @donkiely,
I appreciate you for getting back and providing clarification about the issue. I'm here to help you figure out the cause of the blank pop-up in QuickBooks Online.
You're right. It's a pop-up within QuickBooks and not related to your browser settings.
I've reviewed the thread and see that you're experiencing a blank window when navigating the product. You can perform some basic troubleshooting to isolate and fix the problem.
Since you're getting an unusual result with the display, your browser's stored cache may be full. It can cause unusual behavior to the visuals when exploring QuickBooks or viewing information.
I suggest logging into your account using a private browser or incognito mode. It doesn't store data in the cache and is a great way to check if it's the blank pop-up is happening to a specific browser only.
If you're using Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press the CTRL + Shift + P shortcut on your keyboard. For Safari, hit Command + Shift + N. Press CTRL + Shift + N if you're using Google Chrome.
From there, log into your account to determine if you still get an empty pop-up. This way, the information will reflect from the window.
Ideally, in-product tips appear to new users accessing the features for the first time. There are no specific settings to disable them within QuickBooks Online.
If it works, let's clear your browser's cache to have a clean slate and function efficiently. In case private browsing doesn't work, use another supported web engine to get the best and most secure experience.
Additionally, I've attached this article you can visit about how to change settings and turn on features: Edit company settings in QuickBooks Online. It also contains details to personalize QuickBooks to work the way you want it.
Please let us know if you need anything else regarding getting rid of blank pop-ups or fixing unsual behaviors in QuickBooks. Keep safe always.
Thanks! But I don't want to fix the blank window. I want to get rid of it. And the many other distractions from what is supposed to be productivity software.
But I guess you've answered my question. There is no option to turn them off. So I either need to accept having my day repeatedly interrupted and my workflow derailed, or find other accounting software to recommend to the organizations I work with.
Thanks for your time.
