Hi,
I am looking to capture the freight cost in the cost of the item so when I sell it the price is right. Let me explain:
First I buy the item from a company FOB, So i get the first invoice for the item.
Second I arrange a pick up and delivery of the item to my warehouse and I receive a second invoice from the trucking company.
Thirdly, its in my warehouse counted and added to inventory for my sales guys to sell.
I want to know if there is a way to tie in the bill from the transportation to the product price. That way the cost of the item in QuickBooks will incorporate all addition costs. When I look up the cost of the item I want to see see the total so I can set my price for that item correctly.
There must be a way I feel like import companies must deal with fees and such that are variables all the time.
Hello there, Old World. I see you want to link the freight and cost of delivery to the inventory item.
I've got insights and workarounds to share with you about it.
The functionality mentioned above is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. I recommend sending us your input about this. You can do that by submitting feedback to our product developer. This helps them enhance your QuickBooks experience.
Let me walk you through how:
As a workaround, you can enter the bill for the receipt of the items as usual. Once the freight bill is received, use a clearing expense account to enter it. Ather that, edit the first bill for each item and increase the total cost by a portion of the freight amount. Then, change to the account details section and choose the clearing account. Lastly, fill in the amount of that bill as a negative number.
Kindly ensure that the bill's initial amount isn't modified then save it. If you get any warnings regarding the payments being applied, just click through them.
