I am running QB Premier Nonprofit 2020.
I am currently using Intuit Data Protect to backup my company file in the cloud. That service will only be available to me for a few more months, since my version of QB will no longer be supported. Therefor, I need to figure out an alternative method to backup my company file.
I've contacted tech support, and after several hours it was determined that from within QB, only the Intuit Data Protect can be scheduled. The other backups need to be done manually.
Has anyone been able to set up a scheduled backup using Task Scheduler for Win10?
Please advise me what the steps and task command would be to accomplish this.
Thank you
Thanks for posting here, @d.riseberg.
I can share some options for you to create scheduled backups for your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
You can still create scheduled backups locally. Let me show you how.
Please note that local backup works for company files saved in the local drive. To learn more about scheduling a backup file, see this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file
We have an app website where you can find backup apps to help you. Simply type in the word "backup" to see the results. Here's where you can access our app store: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop
We also have a separate forum called Intuit Developers, where you can find engineers who can help recommend third-party backup applications to use. Click this link to our website: Intuit Developers Community.
For further assistance with backing up your data in QuickBooks Desktop, please post here again any time. I'll be more than happy to share some more insights with you. Have a lovely week, and thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community.
I spent a few hours with a level 2 technician on this item.
Apparently, the Back Up on a Schedule is for Intuit Data Protect, and the top section is to set up the manual backups.
According to the technician, you cannot do both Intuit Data Protect and separate Scheduled backups.
This is what prompted me to seek alternate backup solutions.
I am using an alternate cloud service. If I were able to backup my company file on a schedule, I can have it backed up to my other cloud service, and not worry about IDP running out of time on me.
This is why I posted if anyone knew how to set up Task Scheduler in Win10
Hello d.riseberg!
You don't need to Intuit Data Protect to schedule a backup. I'm here to help you in setting an automatic backup.
QuickBooks Desktop gives you different options to back up your file. The steps shared by Jen_D are correct. Just make sure to select the Local backup and not the Online backup so it won't ask you anything about Intuit Data Protect.
You can also check this article on how to schedule automatic backups without Intuit Data Protect: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
With regard to Task Scheduler, it's best to seek assistance from an IT professional so they can better assist you.
I also included this article if you need help in restoring a backup file: Restore a backup of your company file.
Comment again here if you need more assistance with this. Take care!
