I accidentally filed 1099-MISC forms for my business subcontractors. How do I void them and resubmit 1099-NEC to the IRS and to my contractors?

I'm here to help you void and resubmit 1099-NEC, SSGLLC.

After you electronically file 1099s, you'll receive an email to notify you of your filing status. If the form was rejected, you can void the form and resubmit the correct 1099 forms.

But before that, if the form is rejected, you can follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Go to Taxes, then 1099 filings.
  2. Look for the alert ‌on the page. It'll indicate why the IRS rejected your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC filings.

Once confirmed if it was rejected, you can void your 1099 form.  From the 1099 filings tab, select Void forms. I've added a screenshot for your visual guide:

However, if the IRS already accepted the form, you can submit an amended form to correct your 1099.

Aside from that, here's how you can track the status of your 1099 form and what it means so you can better track them:

  1. Go to Taxes, then 1099 filings.
  2. View the status of the e-filing under Filing status. Below is the list of statuses and what they mean:
    • Not Submitted: You haven't e-filed Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC with the IRS. You can continue revising it.
    • Submitted: You have e-filed the form to the IRS. Note: If you need to revise it, you may need to file a manual amendment. Use these IRS instructions and forms to do so.
    • Received by IRS: The IRS has received your form and is either processing it or has already processed and approved it. Customers who have submitted their 1099 E-File forms will receive a confirmation email approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions. You may not receive this confirmation until the middle of January or later.
  3. Select View 1099 to view a PDF copy.

Moreover, QuickBooks offers several payroll reports that you can use to cater to your business and employees' information. You may want to check out the list of payroll reports that you can use from this article: Run Payroll Reports.
