Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Diane.
I'm here to help you resolve the error you encountered so you can get back to working order.
The reason for encountering this error may be due to incorrect data input. To fix this, kindly review your company's business name for any invalid characters or missing fields. Also, check that your Employer Identification Number (EIN) or tax ID is filled out and formatted correctly.
To do that, here's how:
- Use the Gear icon in the top right to access and update your company settings.
- Then, Ensure the accuracy of the information in the first step of the Prepare 1099 workflow.
- If any information is missing, invalid, or improperly formatted, please update and save before filing 1099s.
- Please note that if you encounter the error in step 4, it could be due to an invalid zip code or state of your contractors.
Once accomplished, proceed with creating and filing 1099s with QuickBooks Online.
If the issue persists, I recommend clearing your browser's cache. Cached files sometimes lead to unexpected behavior.
If you need to correct 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms after e-filing, refer to this article: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.
Don't hesitate to reply if you need further assistance with 1099. I'll be right here to help you.
