I've got the details of why you don't have the option to downgrade a free trial account, ALI59. I'm also sharing a workaround below so you can purchase our QuickBooks Online (QBO) Essential plan.

QBO free trial account can't be downgraded because it is a full-featured version that offers access to all functions for a limited time. Please know that it can only be reactivated to its original version during your trial period once it expires. Once you restore the account with a full subscription, you'll then have the option to downgrade the plan.

Alternatively, you can consider purchasing a new account directly from our Plans and Pricing page. Here's how:

  1. Access this link: QuickBooks Online - Plans and Pricing.
  2. Click the Buy now option under the Essentials plan.

  3. You'll be routed to create an Intuit account or Sign in using your existing Intuit login credentials. You can use one Intuit account to access all your QuickBooks company.
  4. Once logged in, select Create a new company.
  5. Enter your Bank, PayPal, or Credit/Deibt Card information and input your current Billing Address details.
  6. After that, hit Subscribe.

I'm also attaching these resources that can guide you through setting up your new account or gather insights about what happens to your data once your free trial ends:
